 Lancaster Office of Emergency Management Ham Radio Station...

Emergency Simplex Net -   146.400  two meters

This net is held  Monday 8pm - 2000 EST. Purpose is to familiarize area ham radio operators the use of simplex radio communications. This weekly drill allows hams to communicate with the Lancaster Office of Emergency Management. The Lancaster Office of Emergency Management would activate this simplex frequency when ham radio may be required to provide communications for the community or local government in the event of a disaster or any other emergency.

  The  Lancaster Amateur Radio Club works hand in hand with the Lancaster Office of Emergency Management. During emergencies, hams when directed can handle messages for fire, police, the office of emergency management and other public service organizations during all kinds of emergencies including:

  • Power outages
  • Snow storms
  • Earthquakes
  • Tornadoes and floods
  • Motorist accidents
  • Fires and chemical spills
  • Search and rescues

  The Lancaster Amateur Radio Club's facility is located adjacent to the Office of Emergency Management and maintains  ham radio station W2SO and a local VHF radio repeater system that are ready for emergency use. 147.255 mhz

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. 

Can be activated by any member of ARES and will work with local officials, the Salvation Army and Red Cross to aid in providing communications

RACES - Local ham operators that may be activated during peacetime disasters such as fire, floods, chemical spills, earthquakes and other large-scale disasters. 

  It can also be activated during times of war. At such a time all other amateur radio activity is silenced and only register RACES hams are allowed to operate on specified frequencies.
